One of my favorite childhood breakfasts was a sandwich dripping with halva spread- a decadent butter made out of sweet tahini.
Egyptian halva is made with sesame paste tahini and sugar, and you could eat a ton of it in one sitting and still long for more. The version I made here is more of a spread, made with honey, and its texture is a bit thicker than traditional tahini butter (but it’s equally as decadent).
Add a pinch of cinnamon, some crushed nuts, or swirl in a little melted chocolate in your personal jar and don’t plan to share it!
Ingredients:
1 cup tahini
1/2 cup honey
Optional additions like nuts, chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla etc…
Directions:
Heat the honey until it starts bubbling, then add the tahini immediately. Add any extra ingredients and refrigerate for a couple of hours.
Smother on toast or eat with a spoon directly from the jar!
