Welcome to my (really, really) slow moving blog. I’m Nevine, teacher at heart and stay-at-home mom to busy twin girls who manage to keep on amazing me every single day.
My late grandmother and everlasting role model was an incredible teacher at a time when there were few. She was also an awe-inspiring force in the kitchen, always dreaming up new and interesting recipes to make for our big weekly family dinner at her and grandpa’s house. She’d scribble recipes in special and random notebooks, as well as hastily torn pieces of newspaper or old receipts when inspiration hit and she couldn’t wait to put her latest creation down in pen and ink.
This blog, and everything I do, is inspired by Teita. She taught me that teaching, cooking, and compassion went hand in hand. She said that God created us for one reason only, and that is to help other people. She cooked from her heart, and gave away most of what she made gladly because her love of feeding hungry souls far surpassed her enjoyment of eating. She took me to do my first good deed, kept my very first teenage secret, and showed me how to make the best pasta sauce in the world.
She told me that I can do anything I want to do, and believed it.
Teita, this is for you. Every recipe, every thought, and every family dinner over one of your precious culinary delights.
