The Body Project
What is it?
About the Body Project Program
The Body Project is an evidence-based program designed to help girls and young women develop a healthier relationship with their bodies.
The Body Project is an evidence-based body image and eating disorder prevention program that helps participants challenge unrealistic appearance ideals and the pressures that come with them. Through interactive discussions and activities, participants learn to think critically about beauty standards, social media messages, and cultural expectations related to appearance.
Rather than focusing on weight or changing the body, the program encourages participants to question the value placed on appearance and explore the personal and social costs of pursuing unrealistic beauty ideals. It supports body acceptance, media literacy, confidence, and self-awareness in a supportive group environment.
Based on cognitive dissonance theory, The Body Project is one of the most extensively researched body image interventions in the world and has been shown to improve body image and reduce risk factors for eating disorders in adolescent girls and young women.
