Homemade Donuts (Air-Fryer)

It’s true. You can whip up a batch of fluffy, gooey donuts without wasting a single minute of your precious Netflix-watching time dodging hellishly hot drops of oil from a really large frying pan.

I love donuts. My kids love donuts. We love them stuffed, sprinkled, sugared, powdered, and glazed. We still haven’t met a donut we didn’t devour in under sixty seconds. Donuts. Yum. Homemade donuts have always been an unfulfilled promise, mainly because the deep frying part was a huge turn off for me for a long time. Enter the Air Fryer, the absolute game changer.

These babies may not be as delightfully greasy as their fried sisters-in-law, but they’re every bit as enjoyable. Light, soft, and topped with chocolate, sugar glaze, or cinnamon- don’t knock ‘em till you’ve tried ‘em.

Ingredients:
250-350 grams of all-purpose flour
3 Tablespoons of sugar
1.5 teaspoons of active dry yeast
120 ml of warm milk
½ teaspoon salt
1 large egg, beaten
40 grams of butter, coconut oil, or sunflower oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
Oil for brushing or spraying

Directions:

Proof yeast in warm milk. Add sugar and wait till it’s all bubbly.

Add flour, vanilla, beaten egg, and salt and mix for one minute. Add butter or oil slowly while mixing. Then knead until donut dough is smooth, elastic, and shiny. Cover it in an oiled bowl and let it rise for an hour in a warm place.

Roll out dough to around ½ inch/1.2 cm thick with a rolling pin. Cut out donut shapes with a special tool or a cup and a smaller cup. Keep the donut “holes”.

Cover donuts with a towel and let them rise for around 15 minutes.

Heat up your air fryer to 180 C, wait a minute, spray with oil, then lay donuts gently at the bottom of the basket. Spray donuts with a light mist of oil, too (but that’s optional).

Air fry for around 3-6 minutes until a light golden brown.

Do whatever the heck you want with them.
