It’s the good moms who go crazy
The ones who do everything right
Who desperately try to do it all
Who read all the books
And take lots of little notes
Who don’t sleep when the baby sleeps
Because they have too much to do
The washing
The cooking
The cleaning
The driving
The phone calls
The gift-buying
The fixing
The working
The worrying
The caring
The moms who find it hard
The ones who cry at night
And lose their sleep over
Mismatched socks
They are the ones doing it all
Maybe a little too well
Smiling
Happy
Bright-eyed
And grateful
The moms who can’t keep going on
Love their babies very much
With every meal, every outfit
Every little touch
You’ll know them when you see them
Well-fed, well-read, well-bred
They’re the moms we call supermoms
The ones we all want to be
But no one knows how lonely it can get
To be a mom who moms perfectly
On the outside
While she slowly, gradually, painfully
Loses her mind
To all the lists she’s ever made,
And so lovingly
Tried to follow.
